Post-merdeka

I couldn't blog on the 2nd part of my Melbourne trip at the moment as the CDs containing the photos are all with darling. I conveniently forget to take it home each time. And shhhhh..He doesn't know I have a blog. Not that he needs any updates of my life as he is part of it too.

So, this will be a post-Merdeka post. Last year, my friends and I left the hot and humid Klang Valley to somewhere cooler. Genting. We got a really close up encounter with the fireworks show where at one point, one of sparks fell about 10 inches in front of me which I stupidly didn't try to avoid. This year, however, we (the same bunch but including the twins this time. No, not the May-Choy twins. It's Eunice-Janice twins) decided to watch the fireworks at the city centre, amidst the famous twin 'Jagung'. We knew there'll definitely be a huge crowd, not only around the Twin Tower area, but also in the KTM and LRT stations. Thus, we were smart enough to book a room at the nearby Concorde Hotel, more than one month before the celebration. Whoopee! No to sardin-ning with ppl of all smells and flavours in the LRT and KTM.

The team in charge of letting off the fireworks at KLCC could be busy watching the Mat Rempits doing stunts on the road coz the fireworks only came about 10 minutes after the clock strikes midnight. and we tot we missed it since we were walking round and round the Twin Towers trying to find a good spot to view the fireworks. We failed to find that good spot but managed to have a good view of the fireworks with our BACK facing the Twin Towers. *grumble* Nvm. At least, at that particular moment, I was feeling patriotic.

Here are some snap shots I took while I was there. BTW, Concorde Hotel's RM40 per hour internet connection is a total ripped-off.

Top: The firework (only one shot coz the rest were taken in video mode), KL Towers and the rest, The Twin Towers and Suria KLCC.

Check out the centre picture of the bottom row. I told my friends that's a ghost walking passed behind me. Can see part of the twin towers through her/his body. Creepy leh.

shocking!

OMG. I just got to know that the famous crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin died. TODAY.
My cousin Ian must be oh so sad. I should have gone to see him (Steve) at the zoo while I was there a few months back. Why didn't I?

How he died. Apparently, he went diving to film an underwater documentary off Port Douglas, Aust and was struck on his chest by a stingray. I never would have tot a stingray would kill him. Don't wanna sound mean but judging by his dare devil antics, I tot he would someday be killed by snakes, crocodiles n you know...reptiles! But a stingray? THis is so so unbelievable.

May God rest his soul.

My Australia Adventure : Melbourne Part 1

Ok. I don't mean to not update for soooo long. Can't really say that I'm too busy to blog since I got the time to go for holidays. No excuse. Me bad me lazy.

Well, I'm making up for it now. So, here's my entry.

Welcome back arielkmk!
( What? No applause?)

I've been travelling a lot these days. At least until I finish my studies and get a permanent full time job.

Let's check out my favourite-est city in the world.

Victoria - Melbourne

Melbourne

Many people dislike Melbourne for her unpredictable weather. I was told that all four seasons could happen in a day. True enough, darling and I were greeted with a gloomy weather on a supposedly fine morning when we landed. Weather was chilly. About 8 degree celcius.

Cousin Aaron picked us up and all I ever wanted to do was to drop dead on a nice, warm, comfy bed. I only slept for 2 hours on the plane coz I soo damn love MAS plane. They served Magnum ice cream at 11.45pm and they got a whole great selection of blockbuster movies and some great TV series show (MY Wife and Kids, FRIENDS). Movies like 'The Chronicles of Narnia', 'The Memoirs of geisha', 'Big Momma's house' which I haven't watch yet. I re-watched 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' but skipped 'King Kong'. Of course, with the 7-hour journey, I couldn't finish all but hoping to continue on my way back home at the end of my trip.

But sleep got to wait. Aaron, being Aaron had planned a jam-packed schedule for the whole day to make our visit worth though he himself had only a couple hours of sleep after a night of clubbing. He got the both of us to walk around the city. As the observation deck wasn't open till 10am, we walked around the Crown Casino and the Yarra river.

Our first pic in Australia near the Melbourne Aquarium and opposite the Crown Casino, overlooking the Yarra River.

Next, we went to the Observation Deck. See what I mean by the unpredictable weather in Melbourne.

One side sunny, one side cloudy.

Can get lots of nice views of Melbourne up here in the observation deck. Melbourne city is not that big. Not many high rise buildings.

Spotted the lake? That's Albert Park, where the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is held every year.

After that, we went to the famous Queen Victoria Market to get some groceries for the BBQ that Aaron organised. Oohh. I love this place. Really. Cheap (if don't convert to RM) and the meat and veges are so fresh. The place is clean too. Mushrooms are everywhere. On another side of the Victoria Market is the souvenir section. Boomerangs, winter clothings, toys, T-shirts, all kinds of Aussie souvenirs and even pets are sold there.

That night, we had an Australian BBQ with my cousins, their respective partners and little Hugo. That was before we head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for a big game.. Yeah. A very big game of football (it's not soccer I'm talking about). It's the Australian Footies!

Pic #1 : the score board shows the number of ppl in the MCG. 5-digit ler. Cousin Jared is concentrating on the game while sipping his beer.
Pic #2 : Little boy all geared up with Brisbane Lion's scarf, beany and t-shirt.
Pic #4 : Darling, "You understand this game ka?"

Cousin Aaron and Jared are giant fans of the team Brisbane Lion (the place they grew up) vs the home ground Collingwood aka Melbourne team. At first, I wanted to side the home team since #1 they are the favourites and BL is the underdog, #2 there are Collingwood maniac fans everywhere, from toddlers to big old man and #3 we are in Melbourne wat!

But I didn't wanna risk sleeping outside the apartment in the cold (nah. Aaron won't do that), so I happily supported Brisbane Lions..roar!

They lost anyway. Tongue

Some big guy wearing the Brisbane Lions scarf even yelled at the players "You call yourselves Lions when you're playing like pussies!" LOL

So, footies was quite a challenging game for me to understand. No idea why people were cheering each time a player caught the ball when the ball has not even crossed the goal line yet. And how players get penalty kick when there wasn't any foul. With super speed coaching from Aaron and Jared, I finally understood the game. What did darling do the whole time? Enjoying his cup of everflowing beer.

On the second day, cousin Aaron and gf, together with my Unca (Uncle) Roger came with us for a road trip to Philip Island. We didn't get around much there as we only reached there about noon. In Australia during winter, it gets dark at 5pm.

Of course we went to see the penguins. But since they only resurface from the sea around 5pm, we went to see the other well-known aussie animals. Who are they?

Can you see who is darling and Unca Roger feeding?

Nearer

A wallaby (pronounced as Wal-la-bee). Smaller version of a kangaroo.

My turn

Wombats! They were very rough. Munching every bits and pieces of food on my palm, even my fingers. One bit me.

"Wanna bite people. Nah. Eat paper only"

The dingoes

18SX: you so don't wanna know what the dingoes are doing.

However all actions are recorded in video. Big Smile

I don't have pics of the Barking Owl, the only-can-say-hello Parrots and the Tasmanian Devilwho run and run and run around the track with no purpose. All were taken in video format.

And here comes the kangaroos..

Everyone got a chance to feed them

Even kangaroo loves to cam-whore.

Pretty pretty eyes

Darling: Hey, wanna see what happens if I slap this fellar here?
Me: Do it!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Don't worry. He didn't do it.

After leaving the wildlife park, I noticed something amiss.

Eh, where are the koalas. Shit! We missed them?

Alah…Who cares. KOALAS are so over-rated.

Ok. I'm consoling myself. I really do wanna see the koalas! How could I missed them? Aaaarrrrggghhhhhh!

Pestering darling.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Fine. This will do then. (Big koala at the Penguin Parade)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Aaron and me outside the Penguin Parade. The entrance fee is so expensive.

They didn't allow us to take pictures of the penguins coming up to the shore despite having to wait for them in the windy, shivering cold weather.

So, I kidnapped two penguins from the souvenir shop and took a photo with them instead. One can actually press on its stomach and it'll make a sound. Penguin sound apparently. Sounded more like a 'bird got choked'.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I bought the baby penguin. Not the real one.

It was fun watching the penguins returning back to land after a hard day's work of fishing in the sea. 1 will wait for the 2nd penguin to arrive, then wait for the 3rd. Until there are about 7 of them, only then they'll start crossing the beach towards their home nest, under our watchful eyes and occasional 'ooh-ahh' from the crowd. The nearest I could get to the penguins was 1 metre away. Close enough.

To be continue...

yappi bird-day!

myspace code

Happy Belated Birthday my dear blog!
Another year had passed and it seems like only yesterday I started this blog.

Since it's the birthday of my blog, the same goes to me. Sigh.. An extra candle spotted on my birthday cake. Thanks to all my friends who had made the effort to call/sms/send me an e-card. Appreciate that. What's amazing is that the smses starting pouring in since the clock struck 12am till the very last one at 11.57pm. Plus a few belated birthday wishes the next day. THank kew and a big hug to all.

Special thanks to my darling (not the new darling) who had put in extra effort in my birthday celebration this year. Thanks for taking the day off to cook/prepare the "extremely hard to chew" black pepper steak,  "yuck till the last drop" red wine and the "so-called special order but in fact exactly identical with what my family had bought over the counter" cake. The supper was truly appreciated.

Looks appetizing huh?

my new darling

I have a new love interest.

I don't know whether I've hurt anyone in the process.
I tried to be faithful...
But I just couldn't help it.

I saw it coming, 8 months before hand. My parents did too and they both supported me.

Till now, some of my close friends have already met him and went out with him once. They were shocked, I can tell. But they all approved of him. In fact, they all like him. "He suits me", they said. I was happy. Very very happy.

What can I say about him. He completes me. I must admit that it was the physical attraction that draws me to him. I know these kind of relationships don't really last. To me, the most important thing is that we enjoyed each other's company. I'm stucked with him now, at least for the next 5 years or more.

Sorry to those I've kept in the dark all these while. It's official now. He's mine and I'm his. I'm not keeping it a secret anymore. Else I won't be blogging about him.

To my good buddies out there, I'm waiting for your comment on this new guy of mine. I'm attaching a photo of him. You''ll be able to understand what I love about him.. I hope you'll love him too..

My darling...

SPM

I've never been this happy when I received my SPM results.

And now, 8 years later, my ex-neighbour (someone who is very close to me since she was born) told me she got 12 'A1's. I'm soo happy for her. Felt like going straight back to Klg to hug her without realising that I'm 'transport-less' and doom to stuck in the uni till 6pm.

And to have my add math student telling me that he got 'A1' for his add math, is like an icing on the cake. He said this, "Thank you very much. I would not score so well for my addmath paper without ur help".

This is what I loved most being a teacher. The fruits of labour. I'm so motivated now.

I pray that these two lovely teenagers get what they want in life and excel in everything they do. CONGRATULATIONS!

Jui Hao Peng You (Best Friend)

Dear *******,

Hi! How are you? ........................

................................................

................................................

................................................

Hugs and kisses from your best million billion dillion zillion friend,
Alice

The above is an example of the "beginning and end" of my letter to my best friend during the time when letter-writing was the trend, eventhough i meet my best friend very often. Note the quote "Best million billion dillion zillion friend". I don't know whether it was me or my best friend who came up with this. But I sure missed those times.

Anyway, the purpose of this entry is to talk about

BEST FRIEND (or BEST FRIENDS?)

BEST FRIEND
In my opinion, i
t is an overused 2-words word. Many times, I find myself calling anyone who's close to me and those I like, my best friend.

Let's see how the online cambridge dictionary defines BEST FRIEND.
"Best" means the "SUPERLATIVE OF GOOD", also means "
of the highest quality", "the number 1 spot", "the winner".

Good, Better, Best!
So, it is singular. Ain't it?

Then, how could all my close friends be my best friends if "best" is singular? Shouldn't it be "better friends" since I can't make up my mind who's the best? Who should get the best friend crown?

arrgghh!!
I can't decide...and so..

I think..that no one's the best coz they are all amazing in their own ways and they had touched my life in distinctively different ways. *hands down*They should all get their crown. yay!

And so, I should start calling my supposedly best friends, CLOSE FRIENDS or BUDDIES from now on (after this entry). Maybe, in future,  I shall call my not-so-close friends "hi-bye friends" so that my definition of "friends" has more weight and importance.

So far, I have 2 best friends in primary school. 2 best friends in secondary school, 3 best friends in form six and 2 best friends in university. All of them are still very much close with me till today. And I thank God for them and also those who are not too close (to call me everyday and also to go out) but still care to keep in touch after soo long. Love you all lots!

My typical Saturday

1. If there are no tuitions or replacement classes

Somehow I automatically wakes up at 9.30am. Laze around and snozz a while on the bed till 10.30am. Nothing beats a work-free and fun day ahead. Take a nice shower, get dressed and wait for darling to pick me up for lunch.

Lunch at the same place most of the time, eating Hor Fun. Either that or at the famous Asam Laksa stall in Melawis.

Next, we hit the gym. Upon reaching gym, do some running on the treadmill and also cycling. Always managed to burn only 150Kcal in total for a tiring 30 minutes of work out. Shoots! Then, get ready for Lily's class. LINE DANCING. Lily's moves are very easy to follow since I'm no longer a beginner. *happy* I won't say I'm good but at least can dance according to the beat lar. Can't be expecting too much from me. LL is btw much more graceful than I am. Even the 'uncle' and some other guys are better than me. After Lily's class, hang around at the Jacuzzi and then the steam bath. Feeling all relaxed, time to shower and get out of gym.

After gym, most likely to go back to darling's place and go out for dinner with his family. Dinner is quite predictable too. We either end up eating rice with dishes or steamboat. Occasionally, will venture more in Bukit Tinggi and try their kopitiams. After dinner, catch some movies at darling's place or to hang out with my night owl friends (reason why I call them that is because all can only come out after 10pm). The activities are bowling, karaoke and more commonly mamak yum cha to catch up on the latest gossips.

Sleep is usually after midnight.

2. If there are tuitions/replacements classes (bummer!)

It's quite the same. Just scrap off the waking up late and gym part. Replace with these:

Have to drag myself out from the bed at 7.45am. Don't bother to take a bath and just dressed up. Grab a packet of milk and hop in the car. Dropped at the tuition centre and start preparing the lessons. Students come and I start to teach. After tuition, wait for darling to come pick me up for lunch. Lunch either at the Hor Fun place (yes, the same one) or at some kopitiam in Bukit Tinggi. Go back home for a second round of tuition. Free time comes after 4pm. Sad What to do? Need money to survive.

Quite a mundane life...
